Friend requests

By The Seldeo Support TeamUpdated 2026-09-08

Friendship on Seldeo is mutual and consent-based: nobody becomes your friend without you saying yes. The friend request is where that consent happens. This article covers the mechanics; for the model behind it, see Friends and followers.

Sending a request

  1. Open the person's profile.
  2. Tap Add friend.

The button changes to Requested so you can see the request is pending. The other person decides on their own time; there is no expiry and no reminder nag on either side.

Answering a request

When someone sends you a request, the button on their profile reads Respond. Tap it and choose to accept or decline.

  • Accepting makes you friends — a mutual relationship — and also makes the two of you follow each other, so you each start seeing the other's new posts. The app tells you this before you confirm.
  • Declining removes the request. The other person is not notified that you declined; from their side the request simply remains unanswered until they look again.

What accepting changes, precisely

Accepting a friend request does three things:

  1. Creates the mutual friend relationship.
  2. Creates a follow in each direction, so new posts flow both ways in the feed.
  3. Moves each of you into the other's friends-only audience: a post shared to "friends" now includes you.

Nothing else changes. Accepting a request does not grant access to your private messages history, your saved posts, or anything you shared to a Circle the person isn't in.

Common questions

Can I cancel a request I sent? Open their profile — while the request is pending the button reads Requested. If you sent it by mistake, you can withdraw it from there.

Does declining block the person? No. Declining only removes the request. They can still see whatever your audience settings allow, and they could send another request later. If you don't want that, use blocking — see Blocking and restricting people.

Do I have to accept a request from someone I follow? No. Following and friendship are independent. You can follow someone's posts forever without ever being friends.

What if I unfriend someone later? The mutual relationship ends. Neither of you is notified. Posts you each shared to a friends audience while you were friends stop being visible to the other.
