Most social apps started as places to keep in touch and turned, somewhere along the way, into places to keep scrolling. Growth loops replaced conversation, ranking replaced trust, and the people you actually cared about disappeared into a feed built for strangers.
Seldeo is our attempt to walk that back. It is a small, private, deliberately quiet network for the moments worth keeping — photos, voice notes, calls, stories, and memorials — with the people you actually chose to share them with. There is no public feed, no engagement scoreboard, and no algorithm that tries to guess what will keep you scrolling. You choose the audience, you choose the format, and the app steps out of the way.
We think this is what a healthier internet looks like: fewer strangers, more real people, less noise, more meaning. The rest of this page explains how the app is shaped around that idea, and what it does not do.
Three product decisions we made early and keep coming back to. Every one of them has a version you would recognise from other apps — and a version we ended up building instead.
Every post starts by asking who it is for. You can share with everyone you follow, with a smaller Circle you keep for close family or a chosen few friends, or with a specific person. There is no "public" toggle that quietly opens your life to strangers; if you want a broadcast surface, you have to add it on purpose. This is the opposite of the default on most social apps, and it is the single most important choice we made.
Most social networks treat the death of a user as an account-management problem. Seldeo treats it as a first-class product surface. A memorial is a dedicated space where family and friends can leave voice notes, photos, and stories about someone who has passed, moderated by a legacy contact the person chose while they were alive. Memorials do not expire, do not compete for attention in a feed, and cannot be advertised against.
Voice and video calls live inside Seldeo alongside the posts, stories, and messages you were already looking at — not in a separate inbox you have to open. When a call ends you are still where you were in the conversation. Presence is soft: your close people can tell when you are around, but the app never nudges you to be reachable to strangers.
Four steps, in the same order for every post. If you have used any social app before, none of this will be surprising — the difference is what we do not do in between.
Before you pick a photo or hit record, you decide who this is for. Everyone, a Circle, or a single person. Change your mind before you post; you cannot change your mind after, so the app makes you pause on this choice on purpose.
Photos, videos, voice notes, or a short story slide. The app picks a reasonable format based on what you are sharing, or you can override it. Music, captions, and privacy defaults come from settings you set once, not choices you have to make on every post.
Reactions, replies, voice notes, and calls happen next to the post itself. There is no separate DM tab to remember. When someone reacts to a post, you can voice-note them back in one tap and the conversation stays anchored to the memory it started from.
You choose how long each moment lives. Stories fade in a day by default. Regular posts stay until you take them down. Special memories can be pinned; painful ones can be archived with a single tap. Nothing is deleted quietly, and nothing is kept forever without your say-so.
