Safety at Seldeo

Updated 2026-07-13

Seldeo is designed so that you always know who can see what you share and always have a way to act when something isn't right. This page explains the safety tools built into the app, how our Trust & Safety team responds to reports, and where to get help in a crisis.

Your safety tools

The controls you need to shape your experience live one tap away on every screen.

Choose your audience before you share

Every post, story, and message shows you the audience before you publish. Share with your close friends, with a specific circle, with all your followers, or publicly — you always see the audience for a piece of content before it goes out, and you can change it later.

Exclude specific viewers

You can exclude specific people from seeing individual posts or stories, without blocking them or muting them. Useful when you want to share something with everyone-but-one.

Block

Blocking is total and instant:

  • The blocked user cannot see any of your content, including posts you have already shared with public audiences.
  • They cannot call you, message you, or add you to a group.
  • They cannot find your profile in search.
  • Neither party is notified when a block is placed.

If someone finds a way to reach you after you block them — a new account, a screenshot leak, a third-party leak — report it. We treat block-evasion as a serious violation.

Mute

If you want a quieter feed without cutting ties, mute a person or a topic. Muted content is hidden from your feed but you and the other person can still interact if you choose to. You can unmute at any time.

Reporting

Every post, story, chat message, comment, call log, and profile has a Report action. Tap it, choose a category (harassment, self-harm, spam, impersonation, CSAM, illegal content, IP infringement, or other), and add optional context.

What happens after you report

  1. The report enters our queue with a severity tag chosen by our classifier. Imminent-harm reports skip the queue.
  2. A human reviewer opens the report, looks at the reported content in context, and applies our Community Guidelines.
  3. We remove content, warn, suspend, or ban as appropriate.
  4. You receive a notification with the outcome, unless the case is under active investigation.

If the outcome feels wrong to you, tap Appeal in the notification. Every appeal is looked at by a second reviewer.

Our response-time target

Reports triaged by our Trust & Safety team, not by an algorithm alone. Our internal target is under four hours for imminent-harm reports (credible threats, self-harm crisis, child safety). Lower-severity reports are typically closed within a few days. We publish quarterly numbers on how we performed against these targets in our Transparency Report.

Age and teen safety

Seldeo is built for people 13 and older (16 in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and other jurisdictions that require it).

  • Accounts we detect to be under age are locked and asked to verify.
  • Teen accounts (13–17) have restricted discovery: they do not appear in general search or in suggestions to adults who do not share a mutual friend.
  • Direct messages from strangers are blocked by default on teen accounts.
  • The default posting audience for teen accounts is friends-only.
  • Ad-style monetisation is off for teen accounts (moot today because we run no advertising).

Child safety

Seldeo has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material.

  • We use PhotoDNA and industry-standard perceptual hashing to detect and remove CSAM.
  • Confirmed CSAM is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as required by 18 U.S.C. § 2258A.
  • Accounts that upload CSAM or engage in grooming are permanently banned immediately, without appeal.

If you become aware of a child being harmed on or off Seldeo, contact your local emergency services first, then report the account to us.

Mental health and crisis resources

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first (911 in the United States, 112 in the EU and UK, 100 in India, 999 in Bangladesh).

Regional crisis lines we surface inside the app (expanded to match countries in our locale/region map):

  • United States and Canada — 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text)
  • United Kingdom and Ireland — Samaritans, 116 123
  • Australia — Lifeline, 13 11 14
  • New Zealand — Need to Talk?, 1737 (call or text)
  • India — iCall, +91 91529 87821
  • Bangladesh — Kaan Pete Roi, +880 9612119911
  • Singapore — Samaritans of Singapore, 1767
  • Germany — TelefonSeelsorge, 0800 111 0 111 / 0800 111 0 222 / 116 123
  • France — Suicide Ecoute / national prevention line, 3114
  • Spain — Linea 024
  • Netherlands — 113 Suicide Prevention, 0800-0113
  • Brazil — CVV, 188
  • Japan — TELL Lifeline, 03-5774-0992
  • South Korea — Suicide and Mental Health Hotline, 1393

For countries in our current i18n region map where we have not yet pinned a single national line in-product (including Argentina, Italy, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, South Africa, Sweden, and Norway), we route to local emergency numbers first and then to verified local services via findahelpline.com.

We do not staff a 24/7 crisis line. If you contact us during a mental-health emergency, we will route you to the appropriate regional resource, but a crisis line will reach trained help faster.

Data and privacy

Your safety and your privacy are the same problem seen from two angles. See our Privacy Policy for what we collect, why, and how long we keep it. A few highlights that come up often in safety questions:

  • We do not sell your data, and we do not build behavioural profiles for advertisers.
  • Direct messages and calls are never used to train third-party AI models.
  • You can download a copy of your data or delete your account from Settings → Privacy or Settings → Account.
