Memorialising an account

What memorialisation does

When an account is memorialised:

• The word Remembering appears above the person's name.
• No one can sign in to the account.
• Existing posts, photos, and profile information stay visible according to their original privacy settings.
• The account no longer appears in "People you may know", "Suggested friends", or memorial reminders sent to strangers.
• Nominated legacy contacts can post a pinned tribute, respond to new friend requests, and update the profile photo. They can't read direct messages.

Who can request memorialisation

1. The account holder themselves — you can enable "auto-memorialise on inactivity" in Settings → Legacy. The account switches to memorial state if we can't reach you and no one signs in for 12 months.
2. A designated legacy contact — someone the account holder nominated in advance can request memorialisation at any time with proof of death.
3. An immediate family member — a parent, sibling, spouse, or adult child can request memorialisation with proof of death and proof of relationship.

How to request memorialisation

Email privacy@seldeo.com from the address you use to receive our correspondence with:

1. The account username or handle of the deceased person.
2. Your relationship to the account holder.
3. Proof of death: an obituary, death certificate, funeral home statement, or news article.
4. Proof of relationship (if you are family and not a legacy contact): a birth certificate, marriage certificate, or comparable government document.

We review requests within 5 business days. If additional documentation is needed, we contact you at the address you emailed from.

Setting yourself up in advance

The most respectful thing you can do for the people you leave behind is to set up your legacy in advance:

1. Go to Settings → Legacy contacts.
2. Nominate up to three friends who should manage your account after you're gone.
3. Choose an inactivity policy: Never, 12 months, or 24 months.
4. Decide whether legacy contacts can download an archive of your data (posts, photos, videos, messages you sent).

Nominated legacy contacts are notified when you nominate them but do not have any access to your account until you die.
